WordNet is an online lexical reference system & database for the english language, inspired by current psycholinguistic theories of human lexical memory.
English words such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are organized into synonym sets, each representing one underlying lexical concept.
It is definetly worthwhile checking this out, particularly when relating it to the Tim Berners-Lee Semantic Web idea
