Here is the 01 Jan 2000 Map of the Internet, separated by geographical and commercial distribution of the internet’s various networks. The map was made by recording the shortest path taken by test messages sent on January 1, 2000, from a computer in Murray Hill, New Jersey, to each of the 100,121 networks registered in the authoritative global database kept by Merit Network Inc. The data were then graphed using special software created by Hal Burch, a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University, and Bill Cheswick, a scientist with an affiliate of Lucent Technologies. ::: www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/posters/2000/internet-map-black.html
